Nature Reserve

We partnered with CEMEX / Nature to promote nature conservation, specifically the Maderas del Carmen nature reserve. Together with CEMEX we designed culinary experiences that take place in the reserve, in which participants come into contact with nature and are explained the importance of protecting this type of biological corridors that are home to different species native to the region. The experience ends with workshops on how to grill meat using primitive methods and native elements of the region. These experiences are a source of income, directed entirely to the maintenance of the reserve.

El Carmen is a protected and private nature reserve, a transboundary conservation area located on the border of the states of Coahuila, Mexico, and Texas, USA. With a size of 140,300 hectares, it is located in the municipalities of Múzquiz, Villa Acuña and Ocampo to the north.

El Carmen is CEMEX's legacy for global biodiversity conservation. It is the result of 15 years of continuous work focused on preserving, protecting, and monitoring the ecosystems and wildlife of the area.

In this biologically rich and scenically beautiful natural area, CEMEX NATURE and its team of conservation and wildlife biologists have dedicated themselves to restoring habitat and protecting species for growth.

The restoration of more than 20,000 hectares of grassland and the reintroduction of 2,050 native fauna have made the reserve a globally important frontier ecosystem.

El Carmen includes diverse ecosystems such as desert, oak and pine forest, grasslands, and gallery forest and is home to 1,500 plant species, 40 fish species, 8 amphibian species, 73 reptile species, 289 bird species, and 80 mammal species.
